Similar, yet so different!

Not to Australia. Bulgaria could hardly be more different to Australia. But there are lots of things that are so similar to living in Asia. It’s probably not terribly helpful to compare, but I can’t help it. Whether it be the big, communist-style apartment buildings, the plumbing or electricity inside, there are lots of things that are just soooo familiar. 

And yet there are striking differences. The language of course. But also, the things that are available in the shops, the number of personal cars (but no motorbikes or bicycles!) and that we Aussies don’t physically stand out in the crowd like we do in Asia. Of course that changes when I try to open my mouth!

As I get to know this place and the special people who call it home, I pray that I will appreciate how unique and precious they are, and that God will fill my heart with love for them.
